Configuration Recommendations
for videos to be embedded
from streaming platforms
NOTICE! This recommendation guide may become outdated at any time if Vimeo or YouTube changes their commercial and/or security policies.
DISCLAIMER: Online screening at the KFFSS does not pose any problems for distribution. Viewing films at the KFFSS requires prior registration. If you still have any questions, you can see the list of the main Spanish distributors who collaborate with the KFFSS by sending us their representatives' films in the banner below.
1.- WHY DO WE PREFER VIMEO?
As you know, the Kursaal Film Festival San Sebastián (KFFSS) operates as a streaming platform with restricted access for viewers who must register with the KFFSS. This helps us showcase the filmmakers' talent without the time and space limitations of in-person festivals.
At the KFFSS, we don't download films; instead, we request the URL and EMBEDD the film on our web platform so that it can only be viewed within the KFFSS, thereby protecting privacy. To achieve this, we need your collaboration and that you have your internal settings correctly configured within Vimeo. This is not possible with YouTube.
Vimeo and YouTube offer free options, but their privacy and security settings are different, and not everything is valid.
2/.- HOW TO PROTECT YOUR FILM'S PRIVACY?

Yes, you can with VIMEO. You have these options from within your movie's settings:
a/- Left-hand menu, APPEARANCE > CONTROLS > Disable the display of the VIMEO LOGO. Since it's embedded, simply removing this option prevents access to tools like "Download."
b/- Left-hand menu, APPEARANCE > ITEMIZATION > Disable the DOWNLOAD and SHARE options.
c/- From PRIVACY > SHARING > WITH PASSWORD (with a paid plan). Without a paid plan, only PUBLIC is allowed.

NOTE! On Vimeo, you should check every time you access and modify any of the settings, as we have detected that it re-enables the "VIMEO LOGO" option by default even if you have given the "Save" command.

With YouTube, even if you set it to "HIDDEN" privacy mode, it's not possible. A few years ago, YouTube changed its strategy and left the "WATCH FROM YOUTUBE" option fixed. This way, if the viewer accesses the YouTube channel, they will bypass the KFFSS embedding protection and will have access to the movie URL even if it's set to hidden mode.
FINAL PRIVACY NOTICE! You must understand that if you use Vimeo or YouTube with incorrect settings or with the privacy limitations we have informed you of, it will be at your own risk and may not be accessible to viewers.
